dental implants
Replacing missing teeth is important, and dental implants are the closest to natural tooth replacement that you can get!
While missing teeth negatively impacts your appearance, if you don’t replace your teeth, you will also have problems with your bite, including being able to chew certain foods. Research shows that a missing tooth increases your risk of losing more teeth. After tooth loss, the section of the jaw that supported the tooth root will wither and atrophy. This bone loss weakens your jawbone and your facial structure (causing you to look older). At Family Dentistry, our team offers multiple options to replace your missing teeth. However, we believe the best restorative option is a dental implant.
At Family Dentistry, we believe dental implants are the best solution because they replace the entire tooth—from root to crown. Our implants are made from biocompatible materials, such as titanium, which encourages bone tissue to fuse around it. Your jawbone believes the dental implant is a real tooth root! There are also other benefits to implant dentistry.
• Since dental implants do not require support from adjacent teeth, they strengthen your jawbone, preventing bone loss and keeping the structural balance of your face.
• Patients who receive dental implants will not often experience tooth decay, gum disease, or tooth sensitivity—as is sometimes the case with other teeth replacements.
• Dental implants are a permanent solution to replacing teeth.
• Dental implants can be used to secure dentures or partials, which gives you the benefits of implants and dentures, especially if you need to replace several, or all, of your teeth.
The best way to determine if dental implants are your best tooth replacement option is to schedule a consultation. Once we evaluate your individual case, we will discuss your teeth replacement options.
CHECK-UPS + CLEANINGS
This essential procedure is the very best investment you can make in a healthy smile. Visiting every six months allows us to monitor your oral health closely. It’s easier to catch problems at their earliest manifestations, which means we can use conservative, less expensive treatments. During your regular checkup at Family Dentistry, we’ll perform a thorough survey of your mouth, including periodontal exam, bite analysis, tooth-by-tooth inspection, oral cancer screening and TMJ evaluation.
Our experienced and friendly hygienists will clean and polish your teeth, and give you advice about how to maximize your oral hygiene at home.
EXTRACTIONS, CROWNS + FILLINGS
Extractions, root canal therapy, and cavity fillings all have one thing in common: they are restorative measures for damaged and diseased teeth. Your tooth can often be saved with root canal therapy, which removes the damaged interior tissues and replaces the weakened and darkened tooth with a porcelain crown. Teeth with just some decay can be treated with tooth-colored fillings or porcelain inlays and onlays. If you need a tooth restored because of a cavity, we can remove the decayed tooth structure and add a tooth-colored filling to make it strong and beautiful again.
We use the latest composite resin that is mercury free and non toxic, resulting in a natural tooth color and an aesthetically pleasing smile. If your tooth is beyond saving, the best thing for your oral health is often to have the problem tooth removed. However, we always discuss options with you to ensure the best decision for your oral health.

TEETH WHITENING
Do you long for beautiful, white teeth and a smile with a “wow” factor? Teeth that are darkly stained or yellowed affects your appearance and your confidence. And a less-than-white smile can also add years to your face.
While some people are born with naturally bright smiles, for those not blessed with perfectly white teeth, the dental professionals at Family Dentistry can give nature a little help. Our goal is for you to look and feel confident about your smile and your appearance. We have both the skills and creativity to enhance your smile to its premium state. We use ZOOM ® Whitening as our primary system. It works in about an hour and can give you a smile up to 10 shades brighter. Enjoy a beautiful and healthy-looking smile with your one-visit teeth whitening.
dENTURES
At Family Dentistry, we use advanced techniques and high quality biocompatible materials, combined with years of education and experience, to create the best dentures and partials for you. People lose teeth because of dental traumas, advanced gum disease, large cavities, or tooth extractions. An affordable way to replace your missing teeth is to fit you for either a partial or full set of dentures.
Not only can missing teeth cause embarrassment, they can also hurt your dental wellbeing. Your bite may worsen because your remaining teeth are doing the work meant for a full set of teeth. In other words, your bite shifts and impacts how you chew and speak, and may even cause jaw joint problems. Patients who have missing teeth also have higher risks of gum disease and losing more teeth.
Depending on your teeth replacement needs, our staff can customize full dentures for your upper and lower arches, or create partial dentures to fill in gaps around your natural teeth. You may opt to receive dental implants as the attachment points for your new dentures. Having a full set of teeth not only improves your appearance, but also improves your speech and allows you to more effectively meet your dietary needs.
Our dentures are custom-fit for you individually, they will improve speaking and chewing abilities, and prevent the aging look of sagging cheeks and lips.
PORCELAIN INLAYS + OVERLAYS
When a tooth can no longer be preserved utilizing a filling, but has not deteriorated to the point of requiring a crown, inlays and onlays are often the most conservative restorative option available.
Sometimes referred to as a partial crown, an onlay is a precisely-shaped piece of porcelain which is bonded to a tooth. An onlay replaces one or more cusps (the peaks of the tooth). When porcelain pieces are bonded to the grooves (the valleys) of teeth only (and not the peaks) they are called inlays.
Will my inlay or onlay look natural?
In a word – yes! Our inlays and onlays are composed of precisely color-matched ceramic materials. Once our team prepares and bonds your inlay or onlay in place, it will blend seamlessly into your smile like any other natural tooth. Additionally, our inlays and onlays will ensure your teeth close together properly and comfortably, providing a long-lasting restoration.
ROOT CANALS
The staff at Family Dentistry has the years of advanced education and experience in Endodontics.
Endodontics is the dental specialty that deals with the nerves of the teeth. Root canals are the most common procedure relating to endodontics. When a tooth becomes infected it is usually related to the nerves in the root of the tooth. The infected nerves need to be removed. If left untreated an infection can turn into an abscess, which is a much more serious problem that includes bone loss in the jaw. The area around the tooth is numbed with a local anesthetic to start the procedure. Our dentist will then drill down into the tooth to create an opening into the canal. They will then be able to remove infected tissue and clean the canal. After the infection has been removed, the space if filled with a sealant called gutta percha. It is highly recommended that a tooth that has undergone a root canal is fitted with a crown. This will improve the appearance of the tooth, and will also make it much more likely that the root canal is successful.
Local anesthetics and proper pain medication allow the procedure to be performed with little to no pain in most cases. The procedure will also relieve you from pain caused by the infection allowing you to enjoy all the foods you love without any pain from heat, cold, or biting too hard. If you are experiencing pain contact us today.
BRIDGES
A dental bridge is a false tooth that is used to fill the gap created by missing tooth or teeth. A gap between your teeth can be potentially dangerous to your dental health, as it can cause your teeth to shift resulting in a change in your bite that could be painful. Dental bridges help alleviate this problem by using the two surrounding teeth as anchors to hold a false tooth in the place where the gap is. Typically, porcelain crowns are placed over the surrounding teeth, and the false tooth, known as a pontic, is fused between them.
A Traditional fixed bridge - This is the most common type of dental bridge, in which porcelain crowns are placed over the two surrounding teeth and used as anchors to hold the fale tooth in place. The false tooth is usually made of either porcelain fused to metal or ceramics.
How it's done
A minimum of two visits are required for placing a dental bridge. At the first visit, three important steps are completed. Firstly, the surrounding teeth are prepared to be fitted with a crown. This may including filing down the tooth so that the crown can fit over it. Secondly, an impression is taken of your teeth which will be sent to a laboratory to prepare the bridge and crown. Finally, the dentist fits your teeth with a temporary bridge to protect them while the bridge is prepared at the laboratory.
At the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed and the new bridge received from the laboratory is fitted and adjusted. Multiple visits may be necessary to check and adjust the fit.
